Recipe for Kerala Style Chicken mappas

Traditional kerala chicken curry which is cooked in thick coconut milk in a special preparation method will get you Chicken mappas. This is a perfect side dish for palappam, pathiri and vellappam.
Chicken mappas recipe


1. Chicken – 1/2 kg, cut into medium size pieces
2. Onion – 3 medium, sliced very thinly
Ginger & garlic – 2 tbsp each,
chopped
Green chili – 4,5
Coriander powder – 1 1/2 – 2 tbsp
Garam masala – 2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Chicken masala – 1/2 tsp (optional)3. Tomato – 1, medium
4. Medium thick coconut milk – 1 1/2 – 2 cups
Thick coconut milk – 1 1 /4 cup
5. Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
6. Small onion – 47.
Salt
Curry leaves
Coconut oil

Preparation of Kerala chicken mappas recipe
Clean chicken & cut it into medium pieces
Slice onions
Chop ginger
Chop garlic
Chop tomatoes
Make coconut milk of thick & with medium thickness

Marinade for marinating the chicken – In a bowl mix onion slices of 1 and half onions ,ginger & garlic pieces 1 tbs each ,green chilli chopped,coriander powder ½ portion , garama masala 1 tsp,turmeric powder,chicken masala ,curry leaves & salt – marinate the chicken pieces with this marinade for minimum 10 mins.

Cook the marinated chicken pieces in medium thick coconut milk till it cooked & drain it and keep aside.

Method of cooking Kerala chicken recipe

Take a pan & heat oil in it ,add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter ,add small onions ,remaining slices onion, ginger, garlic, green chilli, curry leaves ,sauté all these till onion turns brown .

Add remaining coriander & masala powder ,fry till the oil starts to separate ,now add the sliced tomaroes ,when the tomatoes turn soft add the cooked chicken along with the marinade ,mix well the ,now add the thick coconut milk & cook for seven mins .Now the chicken mappas is ready ,check the salt ,add if necessary.

This kerala chicken recipe could be served with Appam,puttu,dosa, pathiri or chappathi.
