Rainbow puttu recipe

Puttu is the regular break fast item in Kerala. It is traditional and most one prepared with rice flour and coconut. Puttu is normally served with kadala curry. Some people eat it along with small bananas or is served with steamed banana and sugar. Puttu, Cherupayaru curry, and pappadam is another combination.

There are different varieties like erachi putty, ragi puttu, wheat puttu, rava puttu, johar puttu, bajra putu, corn puttu, puttu pulav, rainbow puttu, keema puttu and flavoured puttu.

Here I am presenting a colourful and tasty steam cake with natural ingredients.

The Puttu Maker is required to make cylindrical puttu and has three parts. The first is the base where water is filled so that steam is formed while cooking. The cylindrical portion is where you add the Oats mixture. The steamer disc is placed at the bottom of the cylinder.

Ingredients

Rice flour

Cabbage(grated)

Carrot(grated)

Beetroot(grated

Coconut(grated)

Step 1: Grate the carrot and coconut. Keep it aside.

Step 2: Take oats, grated coconut and salt in a bowl. Sprinkle some water so that it gets wet. It should be of a crumbly texture. When you take handful of the mix and press it, it should hold shape.

Step 3: Grate Cabbage, Carrot and Beetroot and keep in separate bowls.

Step 4: Fill

Now take the cylinder and add the disc inside.

Start adding grated coconut. Then begin with the wet Oats.

Step 5: Carrot / Cabbage / Beetroot Layer

You can add grated carrot, cabbage and beetroot in between. Always start and end with grated coconut for each layer filling.

Step 6: Steam

Pour half of the bottom vessel with water.

Place the cylinder with oats over the vessel with water.

Place it on the stove on medium heat for 10 minutes.

Once steam starts rising the Oats Puttu is ready.

Once the Puttu is cooked with the help of a knife or a stick push the puttu outside from the disc side.

This is a healthy breakfast and an awesome way to begin the day.

You can have it with banana or any curry.
